Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

Lately I've been feeling rather depressed, anxious, lackluster, meek, bored and in need of some adventure. Since I can't afford a trip to Madagascar at the moment, I have to settle for less extreme measures. For example, buying a new shade of lipstick. I've always been a rather low-maintenance person when it comes to beauty, preferring to wear a simple lip balm than a heavy, sticky gloss or rouge because I don't have to worry about it smearing, getting all over my wine glass, fading, or leaving embarrassing marks on my teeth. However, lately I've been feeling the holiday spirit about me and I've been thinking about sprucing up my look a bit. I always thought red lipstick looked too severe against my skin tone, but looking at all the other fair-skinned, blonde-haired, blue-eyed ladies out there in the world who could rock a red lip helped me finally realize that I just needed to find the right shade of red. So I happened to be at the M.A.C. counter at Nordstrom the other day, with my friend Nell, who has impeccable taste. She helped me pick out a nice brick color that isn't too bright or too dark. I wore it last night to a party and it stayed fresh-looking and smear-free for hours. I had to be careful because I'm not used to wearing lipstick, but occasionally I forgot I was wearing it because it felt natural. Now all I have to do is put it to the "kissing" test and see how it holds up! The name of it is "Brave Red," and I must tell you, I actually do feel braver when I'm wearing it...
